February 9, 2017

The Gophers needed two OT's to get it done last night, but they got the win over their rival Hawkeyes.  Unfortunately, with 7 losses and a good number of quality resumes ahead of them, Minnesota is going to need some help from above in order to make significant moves up the bracket.  Last night they got no help as all six teams above them that played yesterday also won.  Saturday at Rutgers is a must-win road game for Minnesota. A victory would boost their RPI a decent amount, even if it is against lowly Rutgers.

As for the teams directly above Minnesota, Notre Dame faces the #6 Seminoles, Saint Mary's faces unbeaten Gonzaga and Xavier faces #1 overall seed Villanova on Saturday, and West Virginia plays at Kansas on Monday.  Those are all teams the Gophers could overtake on a move up the bracket.

Bubble moves:
Several teams slid one way or another today, some due to wins/losses, others minor resume changes, and others just a different view on a different day.  Tennessee, Michigan, Clemson and Wake Forest moved into the field, at the expense of Rhode Island, Indiana, Arkansas and Ole Miss.

Still in contention:
Excluding teams with more than 13 losses, more than 3 losses outside the top-100, and a SOS worse than 150, there are 34 teams outside my current field that could still make a run at a selection.  I've included the rest of that list below my NFO, in a very roughly ranked order.  Some are extreme long shots, but could theoretically still receive an at large bid based on their remaining schedule.

This bracket is created as if today were Selection Sunday, not a forward looking projection.
