January 27, 2014

The Gophers lost a tough one on the road yesterday in Lincoln.  Nebraska was virtually a one-man show with Pettaway accounting for 35 of the Huskers' 82 points.  Without Dre Hollins, the Gophers needed the rest of their backcourt to step up again as they had done against Wisconsin last week.  And, although Malik Smith did his part in a career high 29 point performance, Deandre Matthieu got into foul trouble early, and Austin Hollins made only two FG.

It will be interesting to see where Minnesota ends up in today's new polls.  Just like last week, they followed a big upset win with a somewhat disappointing loss, leaving room for doubt in voters' minds.  I'm not terribly worried about what the polls say at this point, but it's always nice to get a little recognition where it's due.  As it stands now, the Gophers are the highest RPI team (#27) without a single vote in either major poll.
