January 2, 2015

Both Gophers teams failed to secure a victory over the New Years holiday. The basketball team squandered a double digit lead with less than ten minutes left, allowing Purdue to score eight straight points to tie the game after leading 58-50 with eight minutes remaining. With the score tied and less than three minutes remaining, the Gophers could not make shots when it counted, and made a couple disastrous turnovers in the waning moments to secure the loss. Unfortunately they don't have much time to wallow in defeat, as they visit the 13-1 Terrapins on Saturday. This game will be a much tougher test than Purdue, as Maryland has already beaten a couple top-50 opponents, and their only loss is to an undefeated Virginia team that's currently Kentucky's closest competition for the #1 overall seed.

Gopher football gave it the old college try, but they were really outmanned in Orlando yesterday. They managed to keep the game close in the first three quarters, but Missouri really controlled all phases of the game in the fourth quarter and pulled away for good.
